During the Paleolithic era animals are shown but are not sure what they symbolize. The could just symbolize animals that during that era the painters might have seen throughout their days. They usually use hawk, feline, hippos, crocodile, falcon, jackal/dog, lions, rams, beetles, snakes, scorpion, and vultures. Pretty much the animals that are commonly seen in Egypt. In the “Strong Bull” it shows a human like beast with horns who is referred to as in khanacademy.org as the head of the goddess bat or the goddess Hathor which is related to heaven and the horizon. And on the lower part of the palette are a mystical animal known as the serpopards two are shown with the neck enter twined which symbolizes the recess where the makeup preparation took place. And all the way at the bottom shows a bull attacking a wall which can symbolize the king as the bull and he is knocking down the wall of the city. Some have interpreted the palette as a battle scene as a historical record of what happened of an initial unification of Egypt under one ruler. Also the fact that Narmer wears the crown connected to Upper Egypt on one part of the palette and the lower Egypt on the other side. This is the first time that both crowns are used by the same ruler. Others think that these palettes aren’t historical but more ceremonial. It shows a winged nude, goddess-like figure with bird's talons, and by her side are owls, and she stands on top two male lions. The lions are looking straight forward to the viewer with their mouth close and the owls are not sculpted naturalistically the shape of the beak and the length of the legs un-naturalistic. The lions are supposed to show power that she has to be able to stand on top of the mighty lions. And the owls announce change. The ability to see beyond deceit and masks. Wisdom.
