Nefertiti has a very mysterious background little is known about her and there are several theories about who she really is and where she came from. He was only a year older than her and had just become king due to the timely death of his father. It is said that the beginning of Nefertiti's reign was a powerful one. There was vast evidence of her political importance through many carvings in which herself and her husband Amenhotap can be seen together during ceremonial acts. She is also depicted taking part in offerings and daily worship rituals. The fact that Nefertiti was allowed to take part in such sacred ceremonies says a lot about her reign because previous Chief Queens had not usually been allowed to take part in such ceremonies. Amenhotep changed his name to Akhenaten during the fifth year of his reign. He opposed the beliefs of previous pharaohs by declaring that Aten the sun god was the greatest of all the Egyptian gods. He also claimed that Aten was the only god who should be worshipped. Approximately two years later Akhenaten formerly known as Amenhotep decided to build a new capital city. The city was named Akhetaten which meant “horizon of the aten”. It was located directly in between Luxor and Memphis. Most scholars don't believe the theory of Nefertiti being banished due to her abandonment of the cult of Aten because of that of the usual goddesses which would be placed there.Thus indicating her importance to the Pharaoh even in death a fact which refutes the theory of her falling out of favor with Akhenaten.
A more modern theory of Nefertiti's disappearance brought to us by a British archaeologist who goes by the name of Joann Fletcher he claims he found the mummy of Nefertiti in 2003, he claimed that the body he found matched that of Nefertiti exactly. He disclosed this information with press which was a clear violation of protocol which states that it must report all findings directly to the supreme council of Antiquities before releasing information to the press. This eventually lead to his dismissal.
After A period of time Fletcher's ban was revoked and he returned to Egypt. Although the controversy regarding the mummy is still unresolved Fletchers many followers choose to believe that he found the long lost
