Often they are to keep people away. Some of the defense mechanisms I have observed in this client are acting out, projection, and displacement. This client acts out in extreme ways to express his thoughts or feelings because he is incapable of expressing them in a calm manner. Often instead of saying, he is angry he will become aggressive or run away. This client will often project negative statements to the other peers in order to get them in trouble because he is unable to acknowledge his own feelings. An example is he will get angry with another peer for playing the video game too long, when he does the exact same thing. This goes back to his lack of insight and supports his diagnosis of IED and ADHD. Often this client will displace his thoughts, feelings, and impulses on other people. For example when the client does something at school and gets in trouble instead of acting out at school he will come home and take it out on anyone who happens to be in his path. He cannot understand that this type of defense mechanism is ineffective because it causes him more problems.

Client will maintain appropriate interaction and boundaries by maintaining appropriate physical boundaries with peers and adults.
The client’s progress is tracked through narratives and daily activity indicators. This client also has in place an intervention that he needs to take his medication for bowel issues and do his laundry daily before being allowed to participate in leisure activities. The other intervention used with this client is that he is not allowed to be in the same room as female peers due to his inappropriate boundary issues.
Looking through the data collection for the interventions used the documentation shows a significant decline in all the objectives.
Ethical and Legal Issues As a social worker, I have the responsibility to know and comply with all local, state, and federal legislations and policies. There may issues that come up and may conflict with the best interest of the client. I will use the NASW Code of Ethics as a tool in my decision-making, along with seeking guidance from my

First, the case worker should have coordinated preliminary treatment plans for the initial stages of Gabriel’s placements. Here, the worker should have referred foster parents to speak with specialists or attend educational/informational classes on caring for children with unique social, cultural, and behavioral barriers. A class such as this would have been geared toward educating foster parents on identifying common behavioral disturbances, how to respond to future issues, and, importantly, warning signs of suicidal ideations. Plans set forth by the case worker should have also included family therapy sessions to better prepare Gabriel and his foster parents for their transitions in living situation. Next, the case worker should have worked together with the foster parents in collectively coordinating a step-by-step ongoing treatment plan to aid in Gabriel’s recovery, including continued family therapy sessions and weekly reports from the foster parents updating the case worker on Gabriel’s progress, changes in behavior, and/or any concerns that may have arisen.…

The crisis counselor needs to have a tolerance for ambiguity. We need to walk into any circumstance without personal opinions or feeling for the event. For an example, if we walked into a scene where there had been a traumatic event. We have to be able to bring back a sense of order from a chaotic scene with none of our own biases. We also need to keep a calm, neutral demeanor when going into a high stress situation or we would permit ourselves to be swept away from our own emotional reactions and responses.…

The practice method appropriate for this case could be brief solution-focused therapy, which relies on seeking positive changes with individuals and families moving away from a problem focused approach. This approach was influenced by Milton Erickson and De Shazer and is oriented on minimal intervention. Research rates effectiveness of this method in treatment of groups from 65% to 82%.…

This time gave me an opportunity to undertake reflective listening through active listening which according to Rogers (1975) in his “client-centered” therapy argues that it encourages the client to share the information in more depth than if I was only asking directive questions. This enabled me to gain information when the client brought out the underlying issues including those that I had not thought about. The active listening also improved my relationship with the client since I was able to express acceptance by avoiding any expression of disagreement or judgement thus making him open up and also trust me as his couselor. This method also left me with enough time to explore and diagnose the issue thus noting the new ways of approach to the…
