Acadia 4: A Short Story

The Infiltrator As the transport entered Acadia 4’s atmosphere, the friction of the descent unleashed an aura of dense orange flames. As the craft escaped the boundaries of the atmosphere, the flames quickly subsided, revealing an unobstructed view of the surface below. Although, the rocky terrain of Acadia 4’s surface was easily apparent from space; the distilled focus of its binary stars and transparent sky enhanced the texture of the crust to immeasurable detail. The surface was littered with billions of bluish gray rocks, their dominion only being disturbed by the occasional presence …show more content…
You need to see something,” his peculiar attitude was beginning to get on Nel’s nerves. As the two continued through the scrapyard, Acadia 4’s suns slowly started to fall; now being able to comfortably see, Nels removed his glasses. After a few minutes, the two arrived at the drydock. After a close examination, Nels could see that the large support beams were tarnished and that the majority of the aluminum siding had bent and corroded, some had even fallen into the rocky dirt below. The Sergeant walked over to what appeared to be a doorway and entered the structure, Nels slowly followed, carefully ducking under the cobwebs that traced the passage’s outline. Inside the hanger, the only source of light was from the decaying sunlight reflecting through the broken glass ceiling. Looking around, the space was largely empty. The only distinguishable feature was in the middle of the space, where a slender metallic skeleton lay hoisted on supports spanning the length of the dock. The stiff structure could easily be identified as the keel for an imperial battleship. The outer hull plating and decks appeared to have been melted and pried from their designated position, leaving only the curved underbelly, like a half eaten

When I flip through old family photo albums, I don’t recall much more than what is shown in their pages. The outdated clothing, the people, and the locations are seen in the images, and therefore…

Even though English settlers traveled across the Atlantic to the Chesapeake Bay area, the West Indies, and the area that became New England all around the same time, they formed very different kinds of society. This makes it obvious that the determining factor in the way colonial societies grow is dependent on more than just the lifestyle its settlers had in their homeland. In addition to the reasons for settlement in each area, one might also explore the obstacle settlers faced in colonization, and the practices that took root as they lived in these areas.
