Back at the cove it was time for the annual hunger games reaping. Elizabeth, my mother and I all got dressed and fixed up our hair and off we went to the reaping . This is Elizabeth's first reaping and I always try my best to protect my younger sister but in this situation I feel powerless and useless. The reaping begins with the mayor talking about the history of Penem, and also announces the past victors of the Cove, there are only a few, and there is only one that is still alive till this day, his name is Bert Parks. As he steps on to the stage he trips and falls on the stage in front of everyone and everyone giggles, Bert is a middle-aged, drunk dude. After that Lily lilac- the districts escorter from the capitol steps onto the stage and she will be the one pulling out the names of the competitors. …show more content…
Everyone in the crowd was displeased to have a twelve- year-old represent their district. As Elizabeth approaches the stage ,I couldn't bare to let my sister go through with this, before she stepped on to the stage I shout out , “I volunteer as tribute,” and I dart right in front of her to take her place in the hunger games. Elizabeth freaks out and Hansel holds her back as I step on to the stage.
