There is nothing I enjoy more than waking up on a cool saturday morning in preparation for a cross country meet. Sports have always been a big part of my daily life, but I never imagined that cross country would have such an immense impact on my way of living.
I had never even thought about pursuing distance running until my friend, Jared, tried to convince me to join the cross country team in 7th grade. At that time, the thought of running for long periods of time did not seem appealing to me. At first, I did not even consider this notion, but with a couple days of persuasion, I decided that I would give it a try. My original thought was that I would use cross country to stay in shape for my other sports, but I ended up enjoying it more than I imagined I would. Although I wasn’t the greatest runner my first season, it was a good learning experience that I was able to build off of the next season.

I vividly remember our middle school team winning numerous meets, although we failed to receive a trophy on any of these occasions. As I rolled into my freshman year of cross country, I soon realized that the competition was going to be much more fierce than in middle school. This was mostly due to the fact that many of the runners were older than me and that we would face larger schools. As I adjusted to the level of competition in high school, our team continued to develop and obtain new members. This past season, our team won our conference and continued on to the state competition. I was ecstatic that our team was able to accomplish these tasks, and they are two of my most memorable achievements as a cross country runner.
