Personal Narrative: My First Day As A Police Officer

This was the step up, the baby steps of starting my career. My heart was racing with a roller coaster of emotions; excitement, fear, anticipation, and a challenge. For as long as I could remember I wanted to be a Police Officer, it wasn’t always about following my family's footsteps but to have the option of helping others, with the excitement of knowing Police Officers helped placed lawbreakers behind bars. May 30, 2017 was the start of the first day as a Community Service Officer and the day before was day I had to give up being an Explorer for the same department. I gave up endless meetings of learning, opportunities to go to SWAT training, events, and most importantly ride alongs whenever I pleased, to instead be a part of the department while being on payroll. …show more content…
The alarm went off every five minutes starting from 3:45 in the morning until 4:00 am. The feel of exhaustion and four hours of sleep hit the minute I turned on the bright lights. As I woke up it felt like another day of work, just without the proper amount of sleep. I swung my feet across the bed realizing the answer to get a little more motivated was to take a shower. I grabbed the hair spray, mousse, bobby pins, hair donut, dropped them off in the bathroom; then took a quick trip to return for my clothes and a towel. After the steamy shower, putting my hair into a perfect bun was the challenge. Every baby hair decided to pop out and to think in five years I would probably have to do this
