Narrative Essay On Basketball Game

The game ended with one swing of the bat. We had just won a regional title. None of us knew what this meant for us but who cared, we were winners. After basking in our glory for all of 10 minutes, we were told to pack a bag because in the morning we left for Yountville, a small city in Northern California where many retired vets stayed. It was here that we would would play for the state championship over the next three days, as well as be our first stepping stone to an undefeated trip through state, Super Regionals, and finally placing 4th in the Nation. It would all begin with getting in some pretty tremendous trouble. The first game came and went also it seemed to take the longest time ever after a 18 to 2 loss. We put it behind us and decided to leave our sweat filled barracks we were staying in and explore the surrounding areas, mostly trees and a few hidden lakes. We faced elimination with the next loss, so we might as well have made the most of our free trip. This was the first time we came across it. At the bottom of a very large hill, hundred and thousands of headstones lined the gully. We had just stumbled across the backside of a graveyard no more than 2 miles from where we were staying! While saving ourselves from dying of heatstroke and melting in the searing heat, we decided to turn back. The night was uneventful aside from the orchestra of snoring we were lulled to sleep by. The next morning was followed by a surprising win which no one saw coming we decided to call it a day. With a dead silent room, everyone clearly awake due to the lack of snoring, each phone went off in unison. The text read, “Let’s go back on our hike.” The room sat still with the slight glow of everyone checking their phones at once. Without a word we began to get dressed. Our breath froze off our tongue as soon as we stepped out of the door. 18 Southern California boys who didn't get the chance to see more than 50 stars at a time were now lost staring at thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands right off the doorstep. The surrounding woods were eerily pitch black but somehow we could see enough to make our way up the trail. Three dying flashlights were the only thing that held the 18 of us together. One flashlight to protect 6 teenage boys from the darkness that was set to consume us at any moment. A chill breeze ran through the Northern California hills. The top of the trail was finally near, raising the hair on each one of our backs. Half of us broke into a sprint, the other half would get there when they got there. Finally home free. We stared across the dark wet grass, probably freshly watered before morning hit. The pages from a horror book were unfolding in front of us. A low fog settled over each headstone which stretched as far as we could see in every direction. Out of the faintest corner of our eyes movement …show more content…
Another team had found our hidden jewel over the hill and had the same idea to hike up her after everyone had gone to sleep. Although, they were the first ones caught. After more questions than a standardized state test, and numerous threats of being thrown in jail and kicked from the tournament,we were told to go back the way we came and our coaches would be informed of what we did. On our way back we learned the team out their with us was the team we had a game against in less than 2 hours. As we approached our barracks all the coaches on both sides already knew and boy did we hear abut it. Sleep was a mere fantasy at this point, we were lectured up until the first pitch about how we should be kicked out and were a disgrace to the tournament. The most important thing he said though is that we would never win another game out their. We huddled as a team, feeling the greatness about to ensue. We didn't want this summer to end, we knew it was just beginning. We whispered one line, “It’s game time

People coming from a different planet would think every day things we do in life are weird. What we have adapted to and think are normal look very weird to others who haven’t seen people doing things like this. Such as someone who has never shaved before would think that is very odd to shave your beard. Or someone who has never seen a drive threw would think it’s weird to have people have food handed out the window. As we think other cultures are weird we have to look at the fact that our culture is weird to others People that have never seen basketball would thing it is a bunch of people running around with a ball.…

Then, I started playing basketball in high school as part of my school’s team and I’ve been playing ever since.
