Throughout grade school I was homeschooled. I always excelled in classes and my mother never allowed me or my siblings to slack off or put less than out best effort into all our assignments. In high school, we attended a college prep co-op and I was taught by tutors. It was difficult work but I handled it well and had no final grades lower than a B. My parents taught us to do our best and not to be afraid of extra work to keep a good grade. I enjoyed this class setting and having peers doing the same assignments gave me extra motivation. Sciences and math were always more difficult for me. I had always been able to apply extra study time and use practice assignments to keep a good grade. Within the first couple weeks, I had begun to really struggle to keep up with the chemistry class. I completed the assignments on time, but my grades were awful. This was incredibly discouraging. I did not know how to pass an assignment, much less the class. I asked myself questions like: Can I pass this grade with an F- in chemistry? Even with trying my hardest I could not move through the book at the same speed or get a passing grade on my assignments.
