Class 42 Abstract
I was deployed in late 2006 to become a Civil Affairs soldier and lead a CA team as the NCOIC in Operation Enduring Freedom, within the first hundred days of arriving at forward operating base in Farah, Afghanistan; I was assigned an additional duty as the FOB acting Sergeant Major for a Provincial Reconstruction Team in an austere environment with over 300 joint forces to care for and provide NCO leadership. I will discuss some of the challenges encountered by this type of unique organization. As an experienced senior NCO I was able to come up with measures to solve the problems we confronted, working together with the joint team of NCOs for suitable solutions to complete the mission.

The orders had me report to Ft. Bragg to a Civil Affairs Brigade to start the basic Civil Affairs course training. I attended a two week course at Ft. Bragg and then went to Ft. Dix, NJ to complete a month long expedited Civil Affairs course to get our class ready for deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan in support of the global war on terrorism.
