The meaning behind the name of mystery religions was based on its involvement with secrecy. Only members of these cults were informed of such secrets. To all others who were not members, the practices and beliefs of these cults were mysteries. Hence the name mystery religions. The mystery religions partook in secret ceremonies and practices that they believed would earn them salvation. By becoming a follower of one of these mystery religions, one would learn passed down knowledge about the cult’s gods and goddesses and how to achieve unity with them (Mystery Religions: What Were the Mystery Religions?). Everything is very secretive about these mystery religions which is unlike the Christian religion. Everyone has access to all the knowledge about Christianity. The mystery religions believed that partaking in said practices would earn them salvation but they lacked clarity in who or what they followed. There was no ruling or law that prohibited followers of one cult to go and follow and practice what other mystery religions taught (Mystery Religions: What Were the Mystery Religions?). This is distinctly different from Christianity. “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). Christianity explicitly states there is only one true God and through Him can one solely attain salvation. (Quote). There was no tolerance of worship of other idols or gods. This is very clearly portrayed through the teachings of the bible. “You shall have no other gods before me”(Exodus 20:3). This is a dramatic contrast to that of the teachings of mystery
