Plot Summary: This book is about a boy named Sam Gribley’s it’s about his life in the Catskill Mountains. In the journal he writes about the snowstorm he has encountered. Sam lives all alone down in a hidden cave dug out from a tree. This story is flashbacks of Sam’s memories. Sam is a 15 year old boy who dislikes living with his family in New York. Sam explains that before the blizzard arrived he had worked for months building his house in the tree, learning to make fires, collecting stores of food, and more. Turner, Mr.Gribley, Mrs. Thomas Fiedler and Bill.
Settings: The setting mostly takes place outdoor in the woods.
Theme: Solitude
The theme in this book is the need and want to be independent and alone. For Sam, this need becomes crucial when he is twelve years old and living in a cramped New York City apartment which is really small. His family of eleven people and all the neighbors living so close together drive Sam to the outdoor wilderness of the Catskill Mountains. There he finds peace and quiet and no interruptions.
Mood: Power, I picked power because Sam doesn’t have to listen to anyone so now he is in charge of himself. No one can really tell him what to do anymore.
Tone: For tone I picked strong because Sam is strong for just leaving and brave for going in the woods by himself, even though he meets people along the way with his journey. Irony: There wasn’t really anything ironic that I could find. Imagery: In the book when Sam leaves because he is cramped in a new York apart I began to formulate what that must be like. I try and put me in Sam’s shoes, how much stress there would

The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe was written over 150 years ago and the diction is a little hard to understand. It is titled The Raven because the poem is about a raven, but the raven doesn’t show up for a while so it keeps the reader interested throughout the poem and constantly wondering about the bird such as where it comes from and what it represents. This poem contains a lot of rhythmic rhyming. The speaker is emotional and the tone is intense. As the events of the poem grow more intense, the words and the rhythm of the poem pick up too.…

Many people will experience isolation and solitude during their lifetime. Christopher Kezelos’s (2011) ‘Zero’ and Adam Elliot’s (2009) ‘Mary and Max’ portray the difficulties of deliberate seclusion and lonesomeness perceived through the character’s point of view. Kezelos’s work was efficacious as he had successfully portrayed the lack of companionship and love experienced through his protagonist, which were induced by society as he born with the symbolic design representing nothing. This could result in the audience having a sense of understanding and empathy of the distress and anxiety portrayed by the characters, reminding them of their experience of self-worthlessness and rejection.…
