Teachers are there to not only teach a certain curriculum to the students, they are there to grade papers, manage a class, they happen to be role models, mentors and counselors. When it comes to elementary students, the teachers play a role in the development of those younger minds. Learning that young, from a good, supportive role model will shape into who they will be later on down the road. In some cases, teachers are often thought of as the third parent for some children. I am more of an auditory and tactile learner. Auditory learning is a style of learning in which a person learns through listening, and tactile learning is a style of learning in which a person learns through physical involvement. I learn better in positive environments, where the learning is fun and keeps me interested. I’ve always learned best with repetition, the more I do it, the more I will retain. I believe creating an environment that engages children in their work is a good way to keep them interested. The more I read about it, the more I believe that I fall into the Progressivism philosophy of teaching. It makes more sense to cooperatively learn, growing together has always been what I have been passionate about. Teaching children to be more in depth with their creative sides has been a huge passion, and when the children get to collaborate with each other they get a sense of diversity as well. Learning life skills early on will help when the children go onto other grades. The teacher’s role is so much deeper than just teaching, they set examples for children that will last a lifetime. The philosophy of teaching is important for teachers to have written down and figured out, to insure that it is implemented throughout their teaching
