My Informative Speech Outline

Improved Essays
To prepare for my informative speech I just looked over my outline a few times and then went through my speech in my head. I never fully practiced my speech or timed it, but I knew that with the amount of information I had I would not be short on time. Also with the amount of information I had I knew that I would not exceed the time limit. This time when I was in front of the class I was less nervous than before, but before my speech I was quite nervous. Even though I did not practice my speech very much I knew what I was going to say and talk about. I feel I could work on my eye contact and looking around the room. I didn’t feel like I was looking down at my note cards for large amounts of time, but I didn’t look around the whole time, I mostly just looked straight ahead. I could glance at my note cards a little more so when I do need them to find what to say next I won’t take as long because I will know where I am on my note cards. …show more content…
Next time for my speech I will practice a little more and be a little more prepare so I have little to no vocalized pauses and will know what to say about next.
When I finished my speech I felt relieved that my speech was over. Also, before the first speech I felt that this class would not be enjoyable considering all of the speeches that we give during the year, but now that the first speech is done I know that giving the other speeches will not be that awful. I now know that I don’t need to worry about giving another speech as much as I did the first

Once I’m able to do this, I think that skill will carry over past the class and help me in my specific career path which is one of the most important things about the class to me. Another idea that the book mentioned that I think could be good for me is using movement to minimize anxiety. “You don’t have to stand perfectly still behind the podium when you deliver a speech. Walk around as you make some of your points. Movement relieves tension and helps hold the audience’s attention.”…

What do I think I could have done better? I should have been more confident because I did prepare for this speech as much as I could have. My anxiety was at an all-time high with this speech because I suffer from post concussive disorder, this effects my ability to read and my short term memory. I almost gave up and asked for more time because of my disability which is something that I have never done before. However, my pride wouldn’t let me do it…

However, I personally felt nervous as I was talking. This was reinforced by feedback I received which said “you seemed slightly nervous at first but then as confidence grew the teaching became increasingly better.” I felt this was due to a lack of preparation and could have easily been resolved by practice and repetition. Also, next time I will prepare some notes to prompt me and to ensure I do not forget to mention any important details the students may…

I have learned a lot about myself from doing my informative speech. I have learned that my eye contact with the audience and my extemporaneous delivery are strengths that I want to keep having and making better. But I also learned that I have weaknesses that I have to work on to give a better speech, which are practicing citing sources verbally more and trying to not get so nervous that it hinders my ability to do a great…

The purpose of my speech was to inform my audience of the importance of discipline in African American culture. I believe I achieved this purpose in my speech. Although, I could have went into more explicit details about how it ties into African American culture. I could have gone into how discipline ties into African American culture. I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…

Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…

We had to pretend we were in that moment of time where the occasion is occurring and give a speech based off of that occasion. I did my special occasion speech on my friends Rachel and Thai’s wedding. I noticed during this speech after watching it, I did have some of the similar and same habits as I did in my persuasive speech. I used my hands a lot, I swayed my body throughout the speech, was very fidgety and used “um” and “like” a lot as word fillers. I noticed I did not have as good eye contact in this speech as I did in the persuasive speech because I had to do a lot of thinking to remember where what was going to say in the next part of the story I was giving.…

Some strengths of my speech were my correct use of oral citations and providing evidence to support my main ideas, including the use of hand gestures. Some weaknesses of my speech were staying monotone, swaying back and forth, and focusing on the notecards and one spot of the classroom. My goals for next time are to not move back and forth, to vary my pitch and volume, and to practice in front of a mirror multiple times before the speech. Reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses in any situation will help with improvement for the next time in order to accomplish greater…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

A couple things I would change are how I plan out developing the speech and how much to practice it. For developing the speech, I need to be sure of what exactly I want to talk about at the interview. I felt that my questions were interesting, but a couple were somewhat unneeded. However, I came to the conclusion that it is better to have too much than not enough for an interview because I had enough information to work with. Also, I should have taken more time to thoroughly practice my speech out loud in front of others.…
