Back then I tutored the new recruits, taught them how to read music, and the proper playing techniques. My interest in teaching has remained a steady companion; I have continued teaching music and tutoring others in anthropology. As a teacher 's assistant at Warner Avenue Elementary School I have worked with kindergarteners and 1st graders. I love watching the renewed curiosity and wonder in their eyes after I answer their many questions. Words are insufficient to describe my excitement and fulfillment when my students respond with understanding and increased curiosity. I remember one of the children asking me about rainbows and why she couldn’t see one every day. I explained to her how rainbows usually appeared soon after it rained due to the water still in the air. I told her that sunlight has all of the colors in the rainbow, but we can’t usually see it. When the sun hits the water in the air it creates the rainbow in all its colorful glory. The next time it rained she saw the rainbow, and I watched as she explained to all of her friends what I had told her. I determined that teaching does not merely require academic knowledge but a social and emotional capability as well. Ultimately, my goal is to emulate the great teachers of my past to impart knowledge onto new generations, and instill in them a passion for learning in turn. As a teacher I would bring to the job my passion for learning, my intense desire to instill that in others, and never ending pursuit of knowledge to pass onto
