Personal Narrative: My First Day Of Volunteering

Name of the Organization: My first day of volunteering was on July 30, 2016 at Hansen Dam Aquatic Center also known as lake view terrace. I have been to this aquatic center the last two summers and I find it very convenient, fun, and very family oriented place. I decided to contact them and ask if I can volunteer. Our call time was at 10am for new volunteers. Carrie was the volunteer coordinator who showed us the facility, explain the rules, and provided us numbers to call in case of emergencies and for anything else we needed. She also assigned us assignments and our areas of where we can help out. I did a few areas such as the ticket booth and then a few hours after, I did the entrance before the ticket booth to check for alcohol and weapons. I was there with the security guard, I did not do the opening of the bags or anything like that, but making sure, no one tried to sneak in and organized the line towards the ticket booth. The Hansen Dam Aquatic Center is located at 11798 Foothill Blvd. Lake View Terrace, CA 91342. It is a recreation and parks type of organization. I did my volunteering at the recreation lake where it is almost like Hurricane Harbor Theme Park near Magic Mountain. It has a pool in the middle of the park, one slide, and the surrounding of the pool is made of sand like the beach. Families are able to barbeque, swim, bring their own food, and drinks, however, alcohol is not permitted. “The center is a 40-acre water recreation facility located on the northwest side of the Hansen Dam Recreation Area in Lake View Terrace, California (approximately 25 miles north of downtown Los Angeles). Near the entrance, there is an office for security guards, the volunteers, the program coordinator, the lifeguards where they can eat, take their breaks, and also they have their first aid kits available and other medical supplies in case of emergencies. Social issues in the lives of the population: There are too many people that come in to this swimming park that we do not know how healthy and sanitize they are, but there is a wide spread of people from ages to as young as a 1 year old to 85 years of age that can and possibly get sick. Even if the water is filtered, there is still a mass of ways that people can get sick and can spread any type of bacteria and viruses. How does the organization communicate internally and with the larger community: The volunteers carry walkie-talkie. Some of the higher up coordinators carry cellphones and walkie-talkie as well. The security guards have cellphones. The lifeguard have a medium size megaphone that can really scare the swimmers a
