The Florida Keyes conjures up for me a myriad of memories and emotions, a peace and tranquility that no other place has been able to bring me too. I close my eyes and see the cerulean crystalline waters looking out of my dad’s tan 1986 Toyota land cruiser, trailing his 16ft flats boat behind us. This was my favorite part of the drive when we leave Florida City and pass by the edges of the Everglades onto that famous 7-mile bridge. I would get a first real look at the expanse of crystal blue water. This is when I would begin to get excited, I knew we were nearly there. Robbie’s Marina is a must see in my humble opinion. The marina itself is nothing spectacular you can get to it by boat or land and buy gas, fishing bait, or anything else you might need for your trip. What makes this place so special is that you can feed Tarpon here! You are able to buy fish especially for this from the shop but my dad always cast netted bait before we went so we had plenty of our own. The Tarpon or Silver King is one of the greatest sports fish you can ever have the honor of catching. I say it that way because they are not easy to catch they are elusive and strong. At Robbie’s marina they come in schools of dozens and to my young eyes it seemed like hundreds! The area is protected you are not allowed to fish there at all so the Tarpon grows to be enormous I recall the largest one coming straight out of the depths and not being able to see half way down its body, my father estimates that one was 120 lbs! These memories are just a small part of why the Florida Keys will always be my favorite
