Usually, people wait until their senior year in college to decide which type of lawyer to become. However, I am a little different. I am the type of person that sets a long-term goal with many short-term goals to aid my success. With this mentality, it drove me crazy when I attempted to discover which type of law was right for me. As a freshman at Manning High School, I knew that it was time to pick my final decision on which type of lawyer would be best for me. I studied for days. I researched every type of law that there was to practice. After weeks of deliberation, I decided to place my thought process on hold. I realized that I could not base my future on just research, I had to feel it in my heart also. One day I stumbled across a high school organization. I knew this was the …show more content…
After obtaining my masters, I plan to continue off to law school where I will receive my Juris Doctor. Even though having a law degree will open many doors, having an MBA opens so many more. However, I would not be selfish with my success. The latter part of my plan involves moving back to Manning, SC. The little town that molded me into the person that I am. I want to come back and invest in my high school. I especially want to invest in the Manning High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America. When I say invest, I do not mean solely monetary investments. I also mean investing my time. The sharing of my business experience is the most vital thing that I can offer to my school. I wish that there was someone to come and explain their experiences with me right now. However, this Business at Moore summer program is the guidance that I need to get a push to excel. I am truly honored to even be considered as an invitation recipient for this fine

My curiosity in law peaked right around eighth grade. My English class had been reading Monster, a novel written by Walter Dean Myers concerning a teenage boy in juvenile detention and on trial. My interest in legal studies has led me to researching a well-known, yet underestimated, career choice--a prosecuting attorney. A prosecutor is also referred to a district attorney, but is completely different from a defense attorney. While defense attorneys represent an individual client in attempt to prove their innocence, prosecutors represent the state with hopes to convict the client as guilty.…

Last summer, I worked near the US District Court in Hartford and often stopped in to watch hearings and bench trials. As Political Science and Philosophy of Law student, I had read about the workings of the American justice system, but I had never actually seen it up close. In many ways, it was exactly as I expected: I knew who played which roles in the proceedings, I understood most of the legal terms, and I had usually read the facts of the case and procedural history on PACER before the hearing. One thing I did not know to expect, however, was the remarkable professionalism, curtesy, and preparedness the Assistant US Attorneys. I knew that AUSAs were talented lawyers and that their positions were highly competitive, but their quick and…

As a criminal defense attorney, I represent those charged with a crime, whether it's traffic, DWI/DUI, misdemeanor or felony. As per the explanation I have heard from many people, I defend the 'scum of the earth.' Since deciding this was my area of practice as an attorney, I have heard from friends, family and even total strangers that my chosen profession is 'wrong,' 'despicable,' I've even been told what I do is "what's wrong with America. " I try to have a legitimate discussion with these individuals to explain my decision to practice criminal defense.…

Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family. In my transition from childhood to adulthood one event stands out. This event was my experience with the American legal system as a witness to a friend that was being unjustly persecuted.
