I plan to concentrate in Biochemistry because I feel that I understand Chemistry more than Biology, but I do not want to lose the knowledge that Biology can give as I venture into the medical field. Chemistry gives a better understanding of the world around me compared to other science degrees. With Chemistry, I am able to see why processes in our body work and where the results go. In Biology, it tells us about the body and its physiology along with how the world works around us. While this information is useful to us, it makes me feel as if I am just memorizing the facts about our world. In the example of the body, I am able to use Chemistry to understand why the body works in this way, how it works, and what are the things that make the body work in this way. I believe Chemistry, specifically Biochemistry, will prepare me adequately for medical school because it will give me a better understanding of the body and the world around me compared to the other …show more content…
I am currently apart of Habitat for Humanity who builds houses and does other home care needs towards those without a home or those who need help to furnish and upkeep their own home. I wish to be a part of more organizations that involved mental health, but there are not many of them on my campus. Along with joining these organizations, I want to work in research labs to gain experience and to prepare myself for medical school. Many medical schools that I looked into, such as Vanderbilt, recommend that students work in research labs at least two consecutive times to gain experience in a lab before coming to medical school. My desire to become a radiologist would lead me to shadow a radiologist at some point in my academic career. Along with shadowing a radiologist, I would like to shadow a pharmacist to get a feel for their career as well. This career is my backup career if radiology does not work out for me. I choose pharmacy as a backup because it can still be used in the medical field and it involves quite a number of chemistry. From shadowing professionals in their careers, I want to work toward having a 3.8 GPA to give myself a better chance into medical school and to provide myself with a good backbone in the general sciences needed for medical school. Overall, I am pursuing a career in radiology by majoring in chemistry with a
