6:00 in the afternoon and the sky outside has already darkened. Alter Pilot and Maplet Owle are discussing the latest murder case in Alter’s living room in an apartment on Valley Blvd. The death of Priten Duer, which occurred that morning, is a shock to everyone in the city because Priten is the chief of Rosemead Police Department. However, Alter and Mapletare not shock because of his death but because of their discovery. Priten is not clean nor innocent: he is one of the participants in the 8827 Mansion Massacre. The four one-dollar bills appeared in the four murder scenes are also making sense. The latest one refers to Alter’s lover: Marry Corvus.
1. First Blood:
As Alter Pilot is driving pass the Rosemead Park on Hellman Avenue from his way to his work, he found a body lying on the sidewalk of the street. Alter then becomes the first one who discovers the murder, and because he is a journalist reporting crime scenes, he takes a few pictures even before the police arrive. However, as he is writing down the descriptions of the scene to his handbook, the chief of the police department, Priten Duer, stops him. The two show disrespect toward each other, which leads to the climax as Priten smacks Alter’s camera into the nearest tree, breaks it in pieces. As Alter recollecting the pieces (which in fact is his pretending), he disturbs the crime scene by taking a way a blonde long hair and hides it in his pocket. He departs the scene immediately afterward, happily rolls the camera film between his fingers, showing that it is not damaged. 2. First Encounter: Later that day, Alter reports to his newspaper publisher the name of the victim: Tray Torman.

Despite of his work, his manager, Mr. Lee, scolded him for being slack off (but actually because of his jealousy of Alter’s brain). Angry because of his work environment and life in general, Alter leaves the Rosemead Newspaper Department, cursing everyone he meets in the way and returns to his most comfortable place: Le Arbre Coffee Shop. Since he arrives at the place sooner than normal, he meets Marry Corvus for the first time. The two are attracted by each other, and have a small conversation. However, both Marry and Alter know nothing about each other’s career. 3. The Dagger: Though Alter disturbed the Tray Torman’s scene, he is really into the case himself. As he comes back home that night, he investigates the murder in his bedroom. As he traces down the pattern of the weapon found at the scene, he discovered that the dagger’s pattern at the holder and the dagger case is actually familiar. In order to prove his hypothesis, he calls his best friend, Professor Mapet Owle and arranges their meeting in the morning next day. Alter and Mapet discuss about the dagger found in Torman’s case. It is a Buster Warenski’s Golden Dagger, lost with other valuable items in the Abott family’s treasury after the 8827 Mansion Massacre 22 years ago. The return of the Dagger in Torman case shows that there is a connection between the Massacre and the Serial Murders, as Mapet points out. The two also discuss about the daughter who escaped the massacre, then conclude the meeting doubting the serial killer has already reached his goal. Alter meets Marry again at the parking lot of Pasadena City College, and greets her excitedly. Marry finds out Alter is a journalist reporting murder cases, and thus, asks for his phone number, joking that she might call him if she finds a death body. Alter happily gives her his …show more content…
The two also develop a relationship. In one night at the Hands of the Gods Beach, Marry suddenly feels depressed and cry. After a while, Alter realizes that Marry wants him to help her retrieve a valuable item, as she stated, far more important than her own life. Though Marry refuses to say what it is, Alter agrees and kisses her. He realizes he is in love with Marry. He also realizes that Marry has a golden necklace wrapped around her neck, with the word Chicago on it. Though it is too big for her, Alter does not want to tell her

Plot summary The story centers on Gabriel Conroy on the night of the Morkan sisters' annual dance and dinner in the first week of January 1904, perhaps the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6). Typical of the stories in Dubliners, "The Dead" develops toward a moment of painful self-awareness; Joyce described this as an epiphany (a moment of truth). The narrative generally concentrates on Gabriel's insecurities, his uneasiness, and the defensive way he deals with his discomfort. The story culminates at the point when Gabriel discovers that, through years of marriage, there was much he never knew of his wife's past.…

Straying from the straightforward criminologist story to instead feature realities that had been left buried, the element of truth shines. Not only are Roger and Bernard aficionados of historical truth, the third—and perhaps most notable point of view—inspector Cadin, surpasses his role as policeman to also transition to a seeker of uncovering the truth of the past that had been concealed. The further Cadin travels into this mystery, the more he brings the past to present. In following with the expectations of a detective novel, there are times when Cadin receives bogus leads (p. 73), fails to follow procedure (p. 113), or flat out abandons the case at hand in pursuit of the bizarre heist at the height on the mystery. Throughout the story, we are rarely given the chance to breathe.…
