His resentment of Don Pedro and his later actions would almost put him in the same boat as Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. Maintaining the love story of Claudio and Hero is important because of the young nature of it contrasts the more seasoned love between Beatrice and Benedick. However, instead of a love at first sight between the two of them, I would change it so Hero is still the daughter of Leonato, but Claudio has a crush on her since he was hired by Leonato and just has not said anything to her. All of this will be revealed to the audience in a similar conversation that Claudio and Benedick had in Act 1 Scene 1. Claudio will gush about Hero to Benedick, and showing that modesty is important to him, and she has that along with her beauty.
