As a nurse, I explained him the option of having a tranquilizer medication (which was prescribed by a doctor) prior to the MRI procedure which would help him to relax and they would be able to do the procedure. The doctor can decide which treatment option is best for him either he needs surgery or only medication regimen depending on the result. These objectives would help the patient prepare mentally and physically for next medical care according to the teaching. Furthermore, these are very effective guidelines for the nurse to follow and organize the teaching.
Patient # 2: Mrs. Wang is a thirty-nine years old patient with a diagnosis of excessive uterine bleeding and had a hysterectomy. Post op day two with the surgery of hysterectomy, patient complains about increase amount of pain, abdominal discomfort and refusing to get out of bed due to her pain. Education topic: Mrs. Wang needs to get out of bed, sit on the bedside chair, and ambulate inside the room and outside in the hallway as much as she can. She may feel more pain while getting out of the bed. Focus of my teaching is to educate her regarding the importance of movement. My goal would be to increase her activity, which would eventually help her to recover faster without any complications. By getting out of the bed, Mrs. Elena will express of feeling better with the signs of able to pass gas, breathing with ease, and able to move all her extremities (affective).
