I will focus on giving students the good aspects and the bad, but especially persuade them to make the decision to come to Australia.
My target audience are 18 to 25-year-old international students. Using Duarte’s (Duarte, 2008) template to map my audience needs I discovered that I can relate to them in a personal level as, I once, was one of them. The primary reason they are going to listen to me is to discover what moving to Australia is really about and hopefully be motivated. They are worried and the best way to reach them is by providing them an honest representation of my experience, this representation will be given as a story of how I managed to overcome the challenges of moving to a new country. My presentation main colours are blue and yellow. I decided to implement yellow as is an optimistic colour and is very bright to grab people’s attention. Blue represents trust and tranquility, so is also an adequate selection for my message and my hesitant audience and their worrisome situation. The typeface I decided to implement is, Helvetia Nueu, a san serif font. My slides contain on average less than 20 words each. Using a sans serif font is adequate to present large text is clear, readable and look professional. For this presentation, looking professional and prepared is really important, because I want to convince people to do something they are not sure of. Nevertheless, my presentation has a relax feeling too. I use illustrations that make the topic and situations presented on it more approachable and less daunting. The first slide consists of the presentation title and my name. The title is in a large font size to grab the audience attention. The use of white space in here is crucial so they audience can comprehend what they are about to be presented with. The second slide refers to how I felt before coming to Australia. The content presents a positive and a negative feeling. To contrast these two ideas, I utilized different background colors for each section. Also I implemented illustrations to support the ideas. The style I decided to use for the illustrations is flat design. “Flat design is a method that does not use any extra effects to create a scheme that does not include any three-dimensional attributes” (Cousins, 2013). This style is simplistic, easy to understand and wont overtake the attention of my audience. Moreover, it allows me to keep a unify imagery in my presentation, as flat designs will have similar or same characteristics regardless who creates it. Moreover, in this slide, the audience can perceive the blue area as the figure and the yellow as the background or vice versa as these are easily changeable. The location of the text is promoting symmetry within the composition, as well as the illustrations. These elements sit on exact opposite areas. For instance, …show more content…
This slide contrasts the sad message from the previous slide. I decided to make it more yellow than blue to transmit an optimistic and empowering feeling.
The text presented enhances the message of support by scaling up the word “Support”. Also the illustration of a woman about to climb a mountain, is a metaphor for support and empowerment.
To bring the imagery of the metaphor to life I first added dimension to my blue section. This creates depth between the mountains which makes them more interesting and clearly sets them as the figure in the composition.
Secondly I added a circle in the yellow area. Thanks to the previous knowledge of my audience they will identify this circle as a sun. furthermore, the slight change in color aid differentiation and contrast from the rest of the yellow area.
My message in this slide goes back to a sad or doubtful feeling.
To get my message a cross I needed to create an oppressive environment for my illustration.
The background recedes thanks to the dark and dim blue tones. It only allows the illustration a small yellow circle. This makes the image feel enclosed. By adding the text representing her thoughts the image transmits a feeling of pressure that it is also being created by the other elements in the
