Films can cause an array of emotions to stir up within a person. The many different genres of film can allow a person to choose what they want to feel while watching. The most popular film genre when searched is comedy. Within that there can be romantic comedy, action comedy, suspenseful comedy and more. The number of films that one can enjoy is endless. Each genre contains a handful of emotions that the viewer will be feeling. The genre that can be described as both loved and hated is the horror genre. The first horror movie to ever be created and shown was Le Manoir du Diable, french for the Manor of the Devil written and created by Georges Méliès in the late 1890s. The realistic plot must allow the viewers to feel as if this could happen to them. It must also be an occurrence or issue that isn’t very “out there”. For example, it will be more relatable and frightening to watch a movie about a harmful person rather than an alien or entity. It is known that people harm other people in real life, so to watch a film that is displaying real-life possibilities, can be extremely terrifying. The characters themselves must be relatable as well. If a viewer finds that they have a few things in common with a character, it makes the characters and their actions seem like more of a real-life possibility. Lastly, the appropriate sound effects are crucial in the making of a horror movie. The music and sound effects cause the viewer’s to find themselves experiencing an adrenaline rush. They also make the actions that are taking place within the film to seem more realistic by the sounds that they create.
