a. A living funeral is a mock funeral for someone before his or her death. The purpose of this is so that the person who the funeral is for will know all of the things that people are saying about them. Morrie thought this was a good idea because he wanted to hear everything that his loved ones had to say about him. He wanted to be able to experience his own funeral by being able to cry and laugh with his family and friends about his life. “Morrie cried and laughed with them. And all the heartfelt things we never get to say to those we love Morrie said that day. His “living funeral” was a rousing success (Albom, 1997, pg.13).

Morrie describes his situation as “lucky” because while he ultimately knows that ALS is going to end his life, he is happy that he the time to make things right and to live the rest of his life to the fullest. Mitch restates Morrie’s words, “I mourn my dwindling time, but I cherish the change it gives me to make things right” (pg 167). Morrie recognizes that he can only grow from his mistakes and that regret is a waste of time. Therefore, he tries to make the best of his last year alive. In my opinion I would consider Morrie lucky. While I personally would not like to suffer from ALS, at least he was given the time to enjoy and not take life for granted rather then just suddenly dying. Furthermore, Morrie was also given a chance to reconnect with Mitch. This must have meant a lot to not only Mitch but Morrie as well because he was able to pass on so many life lessons. a. I believe that the author, Mitch Albom, means that even though Morrie has passed away, his story and lessons will still be passed on. “The subject was the meaning of life. It was taught from experience”(pg. 192). Although Morrie is gone we are still able to learn from his lessons and we are also able to make and learn from our own experiences.
