As I dove into my research about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I found it extremely difficult to choose a subject and to narrow it down to a few simple facts. Lds.org provides a search feature that allows you to research a multitude of subjects and the beliefs behind them. Here are just a few subjects; repentance, repent from masturbation, pornography, sexual sin, bad thoughts and actions. marriage, evil thoughts, and how to get rid of guilt. I was quite surprised not only to see the subject matter, but the openness in which it is discussed.
I chose to address a modest subject, marriage and divorce. Many years ago, my brother fell in love with a young Mormon girl and devoted his life to her and the Church. His devotion to the church lead him to become a Bishop. Despite the fact that my brother and I are Irish twins and are very close, we rarely discussed the Mormon religion. I have always been curious about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in this case also known as Mormon or Mormon Church, but hesitated to ask questions. After more than twenty years of marriage, and

a relationship with the Mormon Church, my brother recently separated from both. He is the one that suggested the website Lds.org.

I had been pondering this question for a while “how will my parents react when I tell them that I have decided to join the LDS church? The worst part of it all is that I didn’t ask permission to start speaking with the missionaries in the first place.” I was literally weighed down by fear as I crossed the threshold of my parent’s front door that evening. “I made this decision and I am willing to deal with the consequences,” I thought to myself. Somehow the brightly colored walls of the living room seemed dull.…

This article tries to explain the differences in time present in the history of the Book of Mormon. Although time is fairly well recorded, this “time” may or may not have coincided with our current understanding of how time is measured. In fact, from the records of wars, it would make more sense if they recorded each aspect of their lives in a different manner. In fact, this is seemingly supported without a doubt in viewing the patterns in which war is recorded. When a war is recorded, it is sometimes recorded that there is a time of recovery and preparation.…

Mormons where do they fall on the Church-Sect continuum? I’m going to say and stand with my answer that the Mormon church is nothing but a fancy cult. There are many examples of why they are a cult. One of the very first ones is they have a reward base structure way into getting into heaven. Their structure of leadership is funky yet it works.…

Joseph’s humble prayer was answered as God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him.” (ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Smith said that he was led by the angel Moroni to find golden plates hidden on a hillside. He translated the plates into what is now known as the Book of Mormon, a holy book that adherents believe to be yet another testament of Jesus Christ. This occasion initiated Mormonism and prepared the way for the founding of the LDS Church in 1830.…

Beginning of my senior year in September there were two young men knocking on our door all decked out in their best Sunday attire, although it was a Monday afternoon. Realizing they were missionaries for LDS church fifteen minutes away my mother and I didn’t want any part of their church, but we felt bad shutting the door in their face so we invited them in and listened to what they had to say. After letting them in that day it just wouldn’t end they wouldn’t stop coming over and trying to guilt trip us to visit their church. Finally, my mom decided if we go once we will never have to go again, and we did just that.…

Polygamy in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (FLDS) allegedly began in 1831 (Bennion 2011:23?). Mormon fundamentalists subscribe to the line of Mormon theology which was founded by Joseph Smith (Bennion 2011:23). It includes traditional gender role beliefs, religious communalism, and polygamy. However, many “mainstream Mormons” aspire to distance themselves from polygamy. In North America alone, polygamy is practiced by between 38,000 and 60,00 persons, despite its illegality in all 50 states and the District of Columbia (Bennion 2011:23).…

I was raised under the principles of the LDS religion. My upbringing as a Mormon has shaped my positionality in the way that it defies what’s expected. The topic that I want to talk about is polygamy in church history. With conversations that I have with people that are not of our faith, polygamy gets brought up the most. Many still think that our church still practices polygamy to this day, even though the people know me personally and my family, they still ask the question. Many people around the world believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints still practice polygamy.
