The Moon is our closest cosmic neighbour, and humans have been exploring it’s
surface since we first developed telescopes. Though it can be fun to explore, it is far
away, very expensive to go there and it is a very hard place to survive at.
Different countries have sent probes that intend to crash to the moon’s surface but
capture some photos of the surface before the impact. This was the first way to get
scientific information about the moon, and it happened during the 1950’s and
1960’s. Then in 1969, the US became the first country to send people to the moon.
One thing that makes moon exploration difficult is the lack of an atmosphere. Since
there is no atmosphere, there is no air pressure …show more content…
Another thing is the way the non-atmosphere has an effect
on sound. Since there is no atmosphere, there is nothing to stop sound waves from
sailing away into empty space, meaning it is absolutely silent, no matter how loud
you yell, or how loud you turn up the music.
Another thing that makes moon exploration difficult are the extreme temperatures.
Since there is no atmosphere, nothing holds heat in, or prevents it from getting out,
meaning that day is 100 degrees and night is 173 degrees below zero!
The number one thing that stops people from going to the moon is the cost. It costs
$10,000 just to put something that weighs one pound into orbit around something.
And it costs ten times that much to put that thing on the moon. That shows you how
expensive moon exploration is, just to get there.
The surface of the moon is made mainly of aluminum. It has a tough landscape. If
you look at the moon, you’ll see big dark spots on the surface. These are low seas of
barren desert. And the brighter spots are mountains, standing up from the seas.
There are craters as well, caused by asteroid impact. The moon has to be landed on
when we have a clear shot at the seas. This makes it hard to land
