Setting
I walk through the doors of the Montgomery Care Center. Inside there is a small living room to the right with typically one resident watching television and to the right, a window into an office. I wave at the woman at the desk and then sign in at the visitor’s book. I then head right at the end of the hallway and make my way down the carpet that is green and tan with swirls. As I pass the rooms I see some residents still sleeping, others watching T.V. or reading. Only a few see me as I passed and waved to me. I chose these residents because they seemed to be the most “popular” of the group. Karen is by far the most flamboyant and outgoing of the group. She is definitely not afraid to share anything, including that she is a lesbian and “sexts” other women. Though she is so silly she is still a leader within the group. She is the President of the Residents Council, and is always looking out for other residents. Bill is the kind one and the sweetheart of the group. He often looks after the other residents and is Vice President of the Residents Council. One resident he is especially helpful toward is Hope. He is able to walk and since Hope is confided to a wheel chair, he always pushes her to News and Coffee and then to wherever she is headed after. Mack is the sarcastic one of the group. He almost always has a smart comment and often makes the other residents laugh. He also is very knowledgeable and has seemed to live a very interesting life as a truck driver. Who was popular was shown by mostly who talked the most, also it could be seen before and after the activity because the popular residents were the first one’s other residents talked to. At first I just assumed it was more based upon who had a stable mind and who could just simply interact more. However, after my second observation I realized there was more to it than that. There are other residents in similar health to the four I focused on but those other residents did not hold the same traits as those I observed. The traits that they pose different from the rest are having interesting life experiences, being comical, and caring about other residents
