Do you think that the Mongols did cultural destruction or cultural exchange? In my opinion, I think that they did cultural destruction. These documents show how the Mongols did cultural destruction. I claim that the Mongols were more culturally destructive than cultural exchange. I picked this because they conquered many places and they killed a lot of people. The first document that I am using is document 1. In this document it shows a map of all the places that are conquered and the people who conquered it. Genghis Khan was the person who conquered the most square miles, which is 4,860,000 square miles. He was born in 1162 and died in 1227. The second person that conquered the most square miles is Alexander the Great. He was born in 356 and …show more content…
Also, the area of the continental United States excluding Alaska and Hawaii is 3,036,885. As you can see these people conquered a lot of square miles so this shows cultural destruction. Another document I am using is document 4. This document shows that a city in Persia, which is Nishapur, was invaded by Mongols. The people in Nishapur saw that this was serious so they had three thousand crossbows in action on the wall and they had ballistas that were laid in a corresponding quantity of missiles and naphtha. On Saturday night, all of the walls were covered by mongols and they descended from the walls and began to slay and ponder. In the document it says “They severed the heads of the slain from their bodies and heaped them up in piles, keeping those of the men separate from those of the women and children.” There is a chart that shows how many people died and what year they died in. The most people that died were in 1258 Baghdad in Persia. 800,000 - 2,000,000 were the deaths that were reported. This shows how the Mongols took over places and it shows cultural destruction. Finally, my last document that I am using to prove that the Mongols were culturally destructive is document

This document may have some exaggerations because it was written from the point of view of an outsider who could’ve been surprised because he was the first European to visit the Mongol homeland. The Mongols also took the fact of the people they killed, melted it and catapulted it on their houses, which shows barbarism because those acts are cruel and inhuman. (Doc 3) Documents 4 and 5 show evidence of barbarism because they talk about how the Mongols killed entire cities, even cats and dogs, and how they also buried people alive upside and down. The Mongols showed their savage-like ways in document 10 because it said drunkenness was considered an honorable act. The Mongols lived quite a barbaric life style.…

They killed everyone in towns, and razed and sacked as they went along, decimating anyone who dared try and oppose them. Take the battle at the Kalka river for example; in the year 1222, the Mongols crossed the Caucasus mountains to the Turkish Cuman territory, and after the Cumans, who were allied with the Russians numbering about 80,000 men, murdered the Mongol peace envoy, Genghis and his army or 40,00 utterly annihilated the Russian backed Cumans. Although the Mongols were a bloody tribe, they were an empire with a couple of positives in them than you think. They are an empire that would help out with things to improve and help out in the environment. Overall, the Mongols show more cultural exchange because of the type of thing the Mongol Empire would do to help out with the environment. One example, they helped out with the Chinese Silk Road.
