What would raves in the 90’s have been without the use of molly? While it was called ecstasy at the time, the substance was widely popular amongst partygoers. The chemical name for this easygoing substance is 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, or MDMA for short. Over time, generational nicknames such as ecstasy and X have come to identify the drug. In this day and age however, molly is the most commonly used tag when labeling MDMA (Solanki). Molly, along with its new name, is making a comeback. The difference is that molly isn’t only used by young-adult partygoers anymore. Now 1.4% of all 8th graders have done molly at some point in their life. By 12th grade, the number of kids that have done the drug reaches up to almost 6% (“MDMA (Ecstasy or Molly)”).
