• One of my strengths is my personal experience with orthopedics. I have personally been a patient in an orthopedic office multiple times for various incidents over the past 10 years. What I have learned from being a patient is how to relate to people in their struggles. Losing a function or the ability to perform a natural task without pain can be devastating, and I am able to sympathize with that pain. • The limitation surrounding this profession is that the scope of practice is limited to muscle and bone disorders. As a PA, my limitations would be based around what the supervising doctor permits. The provider I was with was looking for a PA that would be willing to assist in surgery and perform pre-operative assessments. From what I could glean from the physician was that he needs someone that can help him on an everyday basis to make sure patients are getting quality …show more content…

• At this point the PA is not allowed to work in hospice, but the purpose of hospice is to help a patient and family go through the end of life process. The reason why I chose this experience regardless of the PAs ability to provide care in this profession is because it best represented interprofessional work. If a PA could work in hospice the goals go beyond just making sure the end of life situation is the best possible, it is also about making sure the family is informed and involved. The hardest part about working in hospice is that we want to innately help people, but help in this scenario looks very different. The skills and experiences are invaluable because regardless of the field we choose to work in patients could be transitioning into hospice home or have a diagnosis that is terminal.
