In 1900 Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany began building up his navy to sail the world and conquer. Many other countries followed suit. When one built up their military the rest did the same. The counties were at an arms race, all trying to built up bigger and better than everyone else. But the militaries did not have much to do, so they began getting antsy which would help lead to WWI. This happened again in 1933 when Adolf Hitler pulled Germany out of the League of Nations, a peacekeeping organization. Hitler then began rebuilding Germany’s military and airforce up to a half a million men while simultaneously remilitarizing the Rhineland, a strip of land between Germany and France previously agreed on to be a demilitarized zone. Militarism occurred prior to both wars. The idea of imperialism continued long after the land ran out, so the fight turned from the natives to each other. Finally nationalism caused internal problems that would lead to external problems. The events occurring around the times of the World Wars are very important to history because without them the world would not have experienced the Great Depression which set many regulations and policies in motion, the Good Neighbor Policy would not have been created, and countries would not have the alliances and enemies they have
