Everyone makes mistakes, it’s what makes us human. It’s not the mistake that defines you, it’s how you react to it. Michelle Huseby(my stepmom) made many mistakes in high school. Too many to count actually. However, she didn’t let that stop her from graduating high school, getting into college, getting a job and marrying her husband(my dad) and living a happy successful life. This is because she didn’t give up and keep on making the same mistake over and over again. Making mistakes is important because it helps you learn to “come of age”.

At the end of her sophomore year, she moved to tacoma and still wanted to go to Peninsula High school. “I rode the city bus to school everyday, I had to wake up at 4:30 in the morning just to make it to school on time.” Michelle knew that she had to work extra hard to make up for those first two years of high school and she worked very hard at maintaining good grades and finished with nothing lower than a “B” in any of her classes. This stands out to me as her coming of age moment, she realizes that she can’t get back those two years of bad grades and worked two times as hard as everyone else to do better and she still to this day works very hard to help out in every way she can. She also realized that high school was more than just friends and that instead of hanging out with her friends on a friday night she studied for her biology test. She decided to be more responsible and keep up in her classes and get good grades, she made up her lost credits and graduated on time. Michelle had to decide what was important in order to be a successful person and she did it by keeping up in all of her classes and getting good
