Michelangelo Buonarroti Simoni Research Paper

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni is a famous Italian Renaissance artist. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, and poet. His most famous works are his sculptures David as well as Pieta and his paintings in the Sistine Chapel (Bio). Michelangelo was born in March 6th, 1475 in Caprese, Italy and died 88 years later in 1564 in Rome. At a young age, Michelangelo was sent to live with a family of stonecutters due to his mother’s illness. His mother, Francesca Neri, died when he was six years of age. His father, Lodovico, assumed Michelangelo would go into a career of business so he was sent to Francesco Galeota. Within Michelangelo’s studies in Francesco Galeota’s school, he met a painter named Domenico Ghirlandaio which led Michelangelo to follow an artistic career instead of a career in business as his father had planned (How). He started to learn the techniques of fresco painting but ended up leaving his studies with Ghirlandaio to study at the Medici gardens. …show more content…
He studied anatomy and the art of sculpting at the gardens. Lorenzo de’ Medici, a nobleman with a passion for art, requested two apprentices of Ghirlandaio in which Michelangelo was chosen. Medici soon after noticed Michelangelo’s talents and asked Michelangelo to live in his palace as well as offering Lodovico a position at the palace (Wiki). During Michelangelo’s studies at the Medici Palace, he was able to study under Bertoldo di Giovanni, an Italian Renaissance sculptor, as well as being exposed to crucial patrons, poets, scholars and educated Humanists. He was also given the opportunity to use cadavers to better study anatomy
