The Problem Of Racism In America

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences(Audre Lorde). Since I have memory, I remember coming to the United States of America to buy clothes with my family, more than twice a year. Since I am Mexican, I have always found a difference between American culture and our culture. But it was until some years ago, that I can see how those differences that I saw since I was little, are known as Racism. Which is one of the biggest problems that United States and the whole world are experiencing right now. Racism is becoming as bad as ever before and this can bring major social issues.
According to Jim Greasley from Los Angeles Times, White Americans are nearly as blind to their racism as ever before. He talks about a white man saying to another man that he believes Black people really do not want civil rights or integration. “If God had meant white people and black people to mix, he would have made them one color” the man said(Greasley). This social issue is spreading more and becoming a normal thought for many white people. Now they are starting this racism against many different races like Latinos, Arabs and some others. The social media has been a great tool for the spreading of this issue;Maria Sanchez a twitter user from Mexico, upload some photos of her dorm just after the elections with a wall built in the middle of the room, with a note that said “Hey Maria, Trump won so here is a little preview of what is to come. This is happening in all the country, but we can see it a little more strong in the south border of the United States(Sarah). Stereotyping has become the major reason for this social issue of Racism. The Mexican American Stereotype is known as a Low class family, that the parents work in manual labor and that they have probably something to do with Drug dealing. This cause major problem in this people life, specially in Mexican-American children, who are born with the idea that they are meant to be part of that stereotype, and in some occasions that can be the cause of which people is enrolling on this activities such as Drug Dealers. This issue has been more common in the south borders of the country since it is the closest part to a Latino country, which is Mexico. In the south cities of the country, suburbs of Mexican-American people have lower level of education on their public schools than the ones for white people. This is a direct sign of racism and discrimination, because it is limiting these people’s opportunities to climb in the economic ladder of the country to reach important jobs. Mexican-Americans are also compared to other immigrants

This issue come all the way from the bottom and begins with the social interactions these people make. “Historically, Mexican Americans responded to questions about ethnic background with labels such Latin American or Spanish, as we showed with 1965 data in Generations of Exclusion” (Tellez and Ortiz). This reinforced European ancestry in responses about group membership and a distancing from indigenous heritage. Being Latino is more like a stereotype. So is giving a big problem to young kids because they grow feeling less than

Kenshin Siy 10B#29 PANDA [pandas are black, white and come from Asia] Racism is evident during the time of the American industrial revolution when slaves, who were mostly the African-Americans, would be forced to work either outside in fields picking cotton plants or inside factories for countless hours and be paid a single penny or even none at all. The blacks would work for long hours and be harshly beaten up if they fail to do their job properly. During this time, the whites would call the blacks "niggers" and even racially segregate them from the rest of the society. Also during the 17th/18th century through the transatlantic slave trades, colored people such as blacks would be sold to white people as slaves for one's…

About 50 years ago (Civil Rights Movement), this direct, overt, in your face racism became illegal and less socially acceptable. This had two side effect on “White America”. First, it allowed them to believe racism is actually over. Secondly, it enabled the white population to frame the ongoing struggles of the Black community as a character flaw. Due to the taboo it becomes to address racism as a reality, but if you look closely, you’re going to see these sentiments about Black America echoed everywhere.…

We can see how the author's emotional state and how he feels the same way by describing how our president isn’t doing anything for African American and other minority groups to defend them, but instead he’s defending Confederate statues. A black male was shot and killed by a police officer while unarmed and surrendering in Ferguson. A french magazine group was killed for making fun of a holy figure of Muslims on their magazine cover.
