Mercy Shore: A Short Story

Superior Essays
Attention, citizens of Mercy Shore. This is not a drill. The Risen are approaching us, and they are very thirsty for flesh. I advise you all to stick together as families, friends, acquaintances. Remember what you have been training for. Remember who you stand for. Starting now, conserve your resources and reduce your rations. At first sight of a Risen, take shelter. Conserve your ammunition. This is no battle. This is war, Mercy Shore, stand your ground. We must battle tactfully. Take safety precautions as directed. Best of luck, my fellow Mercy Shoreans. Stay among the living, die with grace.

The President just came on the television.” Britney called at her mother, who was inspecting the grocery store shelves now half filled with bananas and loaves of bread. She had insisted on Britney tagging along to help her stock up on groceries. Little did she know she had a far greater reason to buy out the store now.

She noted her tired look and the swollen bags under her eyes. She also couldn’t help but notice the way her lips were turned, slightly downwards. The news concerned her mother; her mother who always managed to stay calm during any

The scene from the film On the Waterfront takes place inside the cargo hold of a cargo ship. A ship un-loader named Kayo Dugan has just been murdered and Father Barry has been called to say a prayer for Kayo. The scene is rich in the elements of Mise-en-scéne. From the costumes worn by the priest to the suits worn by the union leaders, we see a stark representation of the difference between good and evil. The location of the three different segregated groups is also significant in delivering the message in the scene.…
