Medium Term Accommodation

Improved Essays
Medium term accommodation is for wild animals who don’t have injuries or diseases that are serious enough for long term accommodation but still too sick or injured to only be in the centre for short term accommodation. An example may be that they need to stay in the centre whilst they receive a course of antibiotics but they are not in too much pain or feel too sick, they may have a bug.
Figure Four: To show a good example of medium term accommodation for a blackbird that is staying for a sufficient medium amount of time, this cage would be suitable for a blackbird staying for medium term accommodation as with it being medium term accommodation they need to socialise with other birds, as they cannot become too domesticated, so the medium term needs to resemble the wild more than the short term accommodation does, so this means: at least three or four birds in with it (this is obviously only if the bird has something that IS NOT contagious), make sure that it gets scatter fed in order to prevent imprinting as you do not want them copying behaviour that they wouldn’t be able to copy out in the wild. This cage would need a few more full cleans than the short term accommodation too because there is multiple birds so that

In the final article, the zoos care for their animals by making a new contraption to keep them entertained. The article states,” The team recycled some old cargo netting and stretched it out between some perching to support the brand new bird baths. Just like the native songbirds that like to bathe in the little puddles in your yard, Macaws and other parrots love to keep themselves clean too.” The evidence shows that the zoo keepers had enough love and imagination to help the Macaws be happy again. In conclusion, the zoos had enough passion for the animals to go out of their way and make them happier.…

Many different animals develop different strategic foraging behaviours to survive the winter months. The black-capped chickadees (Parus atricapillus) are a songbird that can be observed throughout North America and remain year round even during the cold winters (Templeton, Greene, & Davis, 2005, 1935). During the winter the chickadees form an average flock size of about six to eight, but this number can vary (Templeton, Greene, & Davis, 2005, 1935). In the flock there is a social hierarchy and the dominant individual demonstrates certain behaviours such as vocalizing, bluffs threat, chasing, displacement or fighting to state its dominance (Barkan, 1990, p. 393, Hartzler, 1970, p. 429; Odum, 1942, p. 521). Dominance in a black-capped chickadee is observed when one individual known as a subordinate submits to the dominant individual that is perceived to be more prevailing in…

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve is now one of my favorite places in St. Petersburg! This field trip was a nice break from the fast-paced urban lifestyle that I have been living since moving away from home. Our excursion began at the bird-of-prey aviary. There were several types of birds at the aviary: eastern screech owls, turkey vultures, barred owls, great horned owls, and a bald eagle, to name a few. At the aviary, I learned that barred owls are best known for a call that sounds like, "Who cooks for you……

One example of the success of permanent supportive housing is the Pathways to Housing program in DC. In the DC area, there has been a fifty percent decrease in the amount of affordable housing since 2000, and rental rates have increased significantly (Mukherjee, 2013). There has also been a decrease in funding for Section 8 vouchers. Pathways to Housing DC has helped many homeless people with mental illnesses secure housing. Community-based programs like Pathways to Housing tend to be more effective in providing care for homeless people with mental illnesses than hospital settings, because community-based programs give people with mental illnesses a sense of stability.…

In review of the Request For Reasonable Accommodation Information and Instructions (CDCR 855) form, the following information was requested, and the following substantive answers are provided after having reviewed Mr. Finley’s On-File Medical Information: • Documentation of the medical condition/disability that includes, unless the disability is patently obvious, a medical recommendation for reasonable accommodation. Having reviewed Mr. Finley’s medical information, as his primary care physician over the past five years, I can verify, without providing a definitive diagnosis, that Mr. Finley suffers from an ongoing and permanent, lifelong disability which substantially limits the following major life activities as defined by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008: Performing manual tasks, concentrating, sleeping, thinking and working. Additionally, the prescribed medical treatment he receives to mitigate the aforementioned results in side effects which substantially limit the very same major life activities for a period of 7 to 8 hours following treatment. The side effects caused by medication and/or treatment that a patient must take because of a disability are limitations resulting from the disability. Reasonable accommodation extends to all limitations resulting from a disability.…

An overwhelming majority of hens is limited in the conventional cages, where they each can share only 67 square inches of the cage space.2 67 square inches cannot even compare with a piece of letter-size paper which takes up about 93.5 square inches. Such tiny space is not enough for the hens to spread their wings, let alone make nests or perch. Hence, the conventional battery cage system violates animal welfare. Unlike the conventional battery cage system, the cage-free system provides more space for hens, where they are able to walk around within a certain range, to spread their wings, to nest and perch. Freedom of such activities improves the mood and health of hens, and thus increases their quality of life.…
