Accidents and medical errors occur when people less expect, so everyone should be aware and informed about what things should be done to prevent, and reduce, such incidents from occurring. Since informing everyone is one step into creating the ERM framework, healthcare organizations should get all the employees engaged in making an improvement in the healthcare facility. The method I will use the ERM framework to address risk which is, to first make sure all the employees know how important it is to give patients the best quality care possible. I will make sure to create a safe environment for everyone by getting people to staff to double check and help one another. Simple actions, such as making sure that employees get rid of chemical hazards, will help increase patient safety. I believe it is important to make sure that the healthcare staff members know how to be clean, and take safety precautions when using medical equipment. For example, healthcare staff can take actions, like cleaning up after the use of equipment, or storing strong chemicals in the right place. Another step that will help address medical errors is if healthcare staff takes preventive actions, like rewarding individuals for reporting hazardous items that people are being exposed to. For example, say that an individual with HIV used a bathroom in a hospital, and left the bathroom with blood stains, and a healthcare staff member notices that the bathroom has not yet been cleaned. The way I will evaluate risk bearing and risk sharing activities is by making sure that there is always a balance between risk bearing and risk sharing. Making sure to be covered when there is a loss is important, because companies cannot take full blame for each loss. When using the risk bearing strategy, all the liability costs are assigned to their sources. On the other hand, the risk sharing system occurs when the system assigns the medical liability costs in sections, depending on each department’s exposure. Even though medical accidents occur in a certain department or individual, I think that it is important for everyone to cooperate in paying the liabilities owed. Since working as a team is important when taking care of patients, I think that it is also important to confront and pay for the liabilities as a team. The way I view risk bearing and risk sharing is that these two types of guidelines are completely opposite of each other. For example, if there is a patient who is given wrong lab results, then by using the risk bearing guideline, it can be determined that the person held liable for this mistake would be the laboratory technician. Meanwhile, if we apply the risk sharing guideline, then it can be determined that everyone involved with the patient, and the lab procedures, will be held liable for these errors. So, the action that I will take to evaluate which guideline is preferred for liability purposes would be to thoroughly
