The approval of the community is what gives officers their right to protect and serve them. Although some officers may not be upright and honorable people, many are forthright and honorable. When the media portrays officers of the law in any way, people in any community will assume that is what the law enforcement in their community is like even if the media took footage out of context and skewed the view. In today 's society everyone hates the police when they 're in trouble but they scrutinize officers when they are in need and the officer is not there at a moment 's notice…

The system is stacked up against the community and it is no justice for any of the crimes that the police officers commit. The police have the law on their side and they can just take someone life away and they get award for murdering someone. The community does not trust the police because police officers target them even when they are not doing anything wrong. Lastly, they should not be above the law the community needs to have faith in the people who are supposed to be there to protect…

This situation has brought up riots that were uncontrollable and everyone just sat back and watched. Although at times assertiveness might be necessary, the police department often uses too much force and are biased on their targeted suspects, because many incidents have already been reported and many ended in lives lost. Instead of feeling good and protected whenever we see a police officer, people feel scared and nervous even when they have done nothing wrong.…

Law Enforcement Interview Police officers are seen under the radar in everyday life. By under the radar I mean, we notice them driving around town, or when we are slamming on our brakes passing them going twenty miles over the speed limit on the interstate, or when we all pretend to be perfect drivers when we notice them trailing us from our rear view mirrors. What we don’t notice is who the police officer that’s giving us a ticket is, or what their ranking is or how well trained or educated they are. Police officers are easily disliked by the public because of their jobs of handing out tickets, or making necessary arrests but all they’re trying to do is keep the community safe.…

As stated by Steve Herbert, “police are viewed as a distinct subgroup with a particular ethos that strongly influences their daily practices.” The subculture leads them to believe that they cannot appear weak no matter the circumstance and that they should essentially ignore their own humanity (Malmin). The subculture of police is also filled to the brim with close-mindedness, biases, prejudice, and suspicion (McCartney and Parent). Still, in spite of all of those negative aspects, there are some positive qualities of police subculture that somewhat assist in counterbalancing the more unfavorable aspects. People in law enforcement share respectable principles like teamwork, supportiveness, perseverance, loyalty as well as quite a few more.…

The media is a huge factor in why people have such a bad perception of police officers. A police officer of 16 years on debate.org says, “Good cops do not make headlines. No one wants to read or hear about the officer who, with no protection, went into a burning house or worked on a burning car to save a person he/she didn 't know.” They only tell the bad stories about them. It only takes a hand full of officers that abuse their power, to give all cops a bad name.…
