One has to wonder what alternative facts are. Honestly, I never heard of this phrase before, so I did what I always do. I take the words apart, search for the meanings of the individual words and then place them back together. The word alternative means, there may be one or more things available as a possibility. The meaning of facts is, something that is truthful, or reality. The word oxymoron enters my mind when these two words are placed together. Ironically, alternative facts may be used more often than one may think. Recently, President Trump’s advisor, Kellyanne Conway coined that phrase in a Meet the Press interview. She was defending the White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer. A reporter stated that Spicer gave a falsehood about President’s Trump inauguration being one of the biggest turnouts in history. Since Conway attended Law School, it is not difficult to understand why she would use that terminology. Media attacked Conway for using that verbiage, but she was using alternative facts as an ironic slap in the face to the same media that are biased against the Trump Administration. Another way to look at it is the phrase that was used during the race for Presidency. Both campaigns used fake news to rile up their constituents.
