McCarthyism was made by Joseph McCarthy, he was both an American politician and U.S. Senator. Joseph grew the concerns of Communism by saying things as “ In the hyper-suspicious atmosphere of the cold war, insinuations of disloyalty were enough to convince many americans that their government was packed with traitors and spies “. McCarthyism or Red Scare was the way that Joseph felt, he felt as if communists had taken over the U.S. State Department. Therefore he became chair of the Senate’s committee on investigations. People have various opinions on what McCarthy did, but McCarthy fought for what he believed in so nothing he done was wrong. If it had been an actual problem the government would have overthrown him and not been scared of going up against him. Puritans were extreme protestants within the Church of England who thought the English Reformation hadn’t done enough to change the doctrines and structure of the church. They wanted to purify their national church by eliminating every shred of Catholic influence. Puritans were separated groups from the Church of England and they had brought strong religious impulses to bear. They had absolute sovereignty of God and insisted that as God’s elect had the duty to national affairs. Puritans would stress the importance of education in religious leadership and demanding that religious motivations be tested by applying them to practical situations.
Hysteria was very much important in The Crucible. If someone were to be accused of witchcraft they would more than likely be in shock but to save their lives they would act as if they were witches to not be locked up or sentenced to death; not thinking of how their lives would be changed. If someone was to confess that they were a witch then they would act as if they were witching someone or scream, they would also act as if the devil were punishing them for
