Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. also referred to as MLK Jr. provided one of the most productive revolutions for the African American community. He fought for his rights and for the rights of those to come. He was not a violent man but used kindness and compassion as fuel to fight against the prejudice and discrimination that African Americans were experiencing in the United States. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in the region of Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, Martin lived with his parents Reverend Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King, along with his grandparents and his two siblings, Christine and Alfred Daniel Williams King. began schooling at Yonge Street Elementary School in Atlanta. After finishing at Yonge Street Elementary School, he attended David T. Howard Elementary School. He also attended the Atlanta University Laboratory School and Booker T. Washington High School. He scored ridiculously high on his college entrance exam at Booker High School which caused him to not formally finish high school, he went onto college in his junior year of high school. He entered college when he was 15 years old. King graduated from Morehouse College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. It was at Morehouse that Martin Luther King Jr. had learned about the writings of Henry David Thoreau, a professor. He encountered racism and problems on an everyday basis.
