Right when I brought this idea up, Mr. Luther was quick to dismiss any association with it, saying that the violence and bloodshed was not in line with the Bible’s teachings. He did counter saying that the ideals behind the peasants did have some merit to them, but the violence they portrayed was of far greater evil. I responded by imploring what his true motives for choosing the nobility’s side was. I suggested maybe a greater sense of security was with the nobles, as was a greater financial advantage. Mr. Luther was taken back by these comments, screeching, “Finally you cannot help yourself but spew out good, fat, strong lies, and like a mad person speak against yourself.” (insult generator) Not wanting to lose the rest of my time with Mr. Luther, I changed the subject to Luther’s findings on his beliefs. He calmed down and began telling me of how he was confused at how anyone could ever do enough works to get into Heaven. Beginning with search the Bible, he found Paul’s writings talk about, “The just person lives by faith.” (The Tower Experience) To Mr. Luther, this was an eye opener. All the sudden, my day with the devil was over though. Mr. Luther had to run to catch a dinner with the nobles of Wittenberg.
