Media outlets are using the same mold for every body type or facial structure in their advertisements that are shown to the public; in Western society “thin is in” and artificial means such as liposuction are used to lessen the appearance of hips, buttocks, and general fat (FCC Foundation).Women will undergo breast augmentation or reduction to get their breast to a desirable size. The body image in the media keeps changing and people do their best to keep up with it. Twenty-five years ago the average female model only weighed 8% less than the average American woman, whereas today the average female model weighs 23% below her average weight. Beauty is not the “perfect” body ize. Beauty is not the “Picture Perfect” skin. Society has let this old way of thinking go on for too long. Many women have faced criticism over whether or not they fit the criteria of what society feels is beautiful when it is simply unnecessary. Media has drastically impacted the view many women have about themselves. People perceive beauty as only skin-deep. For most people, the word “beauty” is only associated with the attractiveness of a person’s physical appearance. But beauty is more than just physical appearance. To be beautiful you do not have to modify your body. The illusion of beauty is a very dangerous thing to let draw a women in. She will do any and everything to fit society’s standard and to be able to be told she is beautiful. She will work her body, she will starve herself, she will change her face structure, and anything else that she feels is inadequate to the next woman.
