This piece has “characteristics of classic sonata form, and is similar in energy and length to such concert overtures as Shostakovich’s Festival Overture.” As with a typical sonata form, the piece is broken down into five main sections. The first introductory section features the opening horn fanfare and a full ensemble crescendo into the exposition. Starting at measure four, the first theme is articulated with tutti figures thru many different instruments. Immediately following that in measure twelve, we hear the inversion of that melody in the clarinets and alto saxophone. The inversion is then repeated in the upper woodwinds and in the cornet.…

On Sunday, June 21st, I went to see the Dallas Symphony Orchestra perform “The Music of John Williams and Hollywood’s Great Composers” at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. The concert was held in the church’s worship room at 6:30pm. This was a great place for the DSO to perform because the audience and the orchestra were very close and, in a way, felt more personal. The show included fourteen pieces: “Overture to Captain Blood by Korngold, ‘Tara’ – A Short Poem for Orchestra from Gone with the Wind by Steiner, arr.…

In this film, the Vienna Philharmonic played Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E Minor “From the New World.” This piece displays the serenity of the new world, with violins and violas playing pizzicato to resemble trickling streams, the basses and cellos playing fortissimo in order to represent roaring rivers, and the brass playing in unison to signify the enormous, yet beautiful mountain ranges. Johannes Brahms composed his Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73, in 1877, while visiting a rural town in Austria. This composition is typical of Brahms’ works in that it is a mixture of classical form and more modern ideas. The first movement, Allegro non troppo, is in sonata-allegro form and in triple simple meter, this movement is filled with contradictions in mood and contrasting sections. The numerous contrasts between the different sections make the transitional material especially important in this movement.…

At the end of the 18th century the industrial revolution was still new, and there were still no law or any rules and regulations in controlling the operations of new industries. For example, there was no law on prohibiting employers from hiring a six year old child to work for ten hours a day or controlling the way factory owners dispose their commercial wastes. At that time, British were employing capitalism as a means to run their country’s economy; this means that their government would not play any role in regulating laws governing the new industries or planning any services for the towns because a free market had been created. Therefore, British society had become the first nation in showing how free market in capitalism actually worked.…
