Management styles differ from one person to another. However different management style characteristics are very important in handling people and making sure that it is effective depending upon the situation and character of the employees in a certain company. Managers have the flexibility to change their management style depending on the companies need. They can sometimes be autocratic that they want to be strict and controlling to their people to let do strictly what the manager thinks is right or some managers can be permissive that they leave some room for the employees to move around and to have the freedom to do things only with the managers supervising them. As a manager, she shows so much love to her staff that she doesn’t see herself as the boss but rather one of them. Almost all the decisions that needs to be made by the her as a manager are being made collectively by the whole team. She is so close to her staff and she has always gotten along with everyone to the point that she has recently experienced some hostile reactions from a couple of the staff at work.
While I think having a good relationship to your staff as a manager can encourage openness and can help your staff voice out their opinions and suggestions, being too close to them to the point that they don’t respect you anymore as their boss is not a good type of management. While this style is effective in some companies to encourage innovation from the employees, I think this style of management is chaotic and is not effective in Australian Hardware, since there was a prior incident of some hostile reactions from her staff inside the

She is proud to say that she runs a tight ship which made her staff obey everything she ask from them. Her staff even work through lunch and even after work just to finish their tasks even without extra pay. Even though she is very strict, she still welcomes her staff in her office if they have any problems with regards to work. In return, her team created a good reputation in the industry. Recently there have been a few staff absences and Maria heard that two of her staff have been applying for other jobs.
After assessing her style of management, I conclude that a paternalistic style of management would best suit this team. Maria is very strict and doesn’t care about her staff even though she opens her office for them, no one wants to voice out since they are all distant to her and scared. In paternalistic style of management, the leader always decides what is best for her team and as well as the company. Leaders like this acts like a father figure where they make decision but may consult and believes in the need to support the staff. Being too strict and blinded by her responsibility as a supervisor, she is neglecting her staff needs such as proper breaks, proper pay and a good work-life balance.
