On February 21, 1965, Malcolm was shot 21 times in front of his pregnant wife, four daughters and an audience of 400 people. Malcolm x was giving a speech in Harlem when someone from the audience yelled, “Nigga, get your hand out of my pocket!” to distract security. When security went to quiet the disturbance, a man in the front row shot Malcolm in the chest with a shotgun. Two other men ran to the stage and shot Malcolm several times using semi automatic handguns. Three Nation of islam members, Thomas Hagan, Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Khalil were convicted and served prison sentences.
Malcolm x unlike MLK preached violence over non-violence making what he did that much more dangerous to those who hated the civil rights movement. Do to malcolm x’s violent approach the FBI knew that him and his followers would not hesitate to attack those who attacked them, making the white supremacists unable to just bully passive blacks but have to deal with aggressive ones making what him a very dangerous man enough so to be silenced. In 1953, he was named assistant minister of the Nation’s Temple Number One in Detroit. Malcolm was involved with the opening and expansion of many temples in america later in 1953 he established Boston’s Temple Number 11 in March 1954, he expanded Temple Number 12 in Philadelphia and two months later he was selected to lead Temple Number 7 in Harlem. In 1963, Malcolm discovered that Elijah had repeatedly committed adultery with several of his teenage secretaries and even fathered children with them.
