Henry Longfellow stated, “Music is the universal language of mankind.” It can connect people in a way that nothing else can. Music can express what words simply cannot. Every chord and lyric, a major 7th or augmented, tells a story. It is in the hands of the listeners to interpret. The main purpose I plan to study music education is to achieve my dream. My dream is to open a program to teach underprivileged children. There is a program in Venezuela, El Sistema, that holds similar qualities that I have in mind for my future music program. It gives the gift of music to kids from poverty-stricken areas, and it is extremely successful there, serving nearly 700,000 people at any given time. Music can give a voice and also many opportunities to people, and I plan to do the same here.
I am seeking to learn more about music, and give it back to the world. Now, music is a very special thing, able to evoke rage and anger or peace and harmony.
