Maerad of Pellinor
In the beginning of the book, The Naming by Alison Croggon, the main character, Maerad, is perceived as cowardly, timid, and meek. However, if the reader looks a bit into her life, one will find many reasons for her behavior. At a young age, Maerad lost her family and had been living in a place where slaves are kept which is called Gilman's Cot. While there, she was treated as disposable and worthless. She was also beaten, overworked, and depersonalized. Despite all Maerad had gone through, she looked for better days and never lost all hope. Although it seemed Maerad’s life would never get better, she gets rescued by a very kind man named Cadvan. The book continues on and the reader may notice that Maerad had made a complete transformation into someone who is adventurous, courageous, and considerate due to her rescue from the poor old shack she called home. …show more content…
She want from being timid and shy to showing chivalry and courage. After her rescue, Maerad goes on many adventures that further test her strength. She also puts herself in danger multiple times to try and save the people around her. Later in the story, Maerad finds her path in life and really comes out of her shell and starts speaking freely about what she believes in. For example, she spoke out to her friend, Cadvan, about going to look at the trailer that got attacked by an evil force and continued to do so until he agreed to let her. However, this book is one in a series so Maerad’s character will most likely change much more. In conclusion, Maerad of Pellinor is a well thought out character who changes majorly and appears like someone any young reader would look up to because of her bravery and
