Shakespeare is known as one of the greatest English writers of all time. He proves to be extremely successful as his works continue to be studied and admired even today. As a result of Shakespeare's genius, many specific passages of his have become well known. Though all of Shakespeare's work is genius, certain lines from many of his plays have become extraordinarily well known. The passages that receive the most attention generally discuss or explore interesting or deep topics and ideas Some of his famous passages became famous because of their thought invoking ability. Others also became well known and highly studies because of their interesting or new perspective and insights on topic. This soliloquy however, is one of the only instances in the play that reflects on this subject. Macbeth states, “Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing” This comment demonstrates well Macbeth's thoughts on life. He begins with a word picture describing a person who is worried about their moment on stage and then when they get that moment nobody is watching them. This suggests that Macbeth believes that nothing you do in life matters, that life is meaningless. What you do in this life counts for nothing. He continues saying that life is full of things that make it sound important but in the end it means nothing. This is the mindset Macbeth results too after he finds out about the death of Lady Macbeth, At this point in the tragedy Macbeth is also about to go into battle, so Macbeth's view on life are extremely
